Improvising Institutions, Art & Its Institutional Borders is a contribution to the De Gruyter volume Kunst an den Rändern edited by Christiane Kruse and Annika Frye.
These writings began their lives as notes for a talk and workshop (with Bernhard Garnicnig and part of the Institutions as a Way of Life project) on the topic and possibility of "institutional improvisation", and the equally suppositional and perhaps overly ambitious idea of "improvising institutions." The talk itself was somewhat improvised, delivered at the end of a three-day series of such contributions and interventions as part of a symposium entitled «Art and Its Borders» («Kunst an den Rändern») at Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Kiel, Germany.
