Metabolic Futuring

A contribution to the series, collection and intervention that is COUNTER-N, on the topic of "Metabolic Futuring." Starting from the editorial questions, "How would you describe or define metabolic futuring? How do you engage with metabolic futuring in your work that tackles varied themes related to the planetary urgencies of our times while navigating multiple locales, institutions, mediums, and species?", the motivating and new-attention creating force of metabolic ideas and practices. Metabolic Futuring counters the modernist somnambulism that projects epistemologies of harmony and cyclical balance in the service of continual growth through its diagrammatics while simultaneously tearing any actual, existing balances and harmonies asunder in real, physical ways.

COUNTER-N is a web-based publishing, exchange, and research collection curated by Shintaro Miyazaki and Özgün Eylül İşcen. Counter-N collects constructive critique, which not only dissects, analyzes, debunks, and decomposes the subjects it opposes, but a form of critique, which is also constructive and puts together. N stands for a verb form(-ing), highlighting its both active and processual nature.
